FIELD GUIDE NO. 9

Confidence

Evidence, Recovery, and the End of Faking It

You do good work, and somehow the confidence never catches up to it. You replay the presentation you rated a disaster, the one the room barely remembers. You wait to feel ready, and the feeling arrives late or not at all. The gap isn't your competence. It's that your internal story is running on the weather instead of the record. This guide gives you six practices you can run whether or not the feeling shows up, and a diagnostic that finds where your confidence breaks down.

Also available on Apple Books, Spotify, Google Play and other retailers.

Every practice, taken apart.

Each of the six practices follows the same anatomy: the pattern I see most in coaching, the reframe that changes what you're looking at, the tool you can run this week, the coaching questions that expose it, and one experiment to run in 48 hours. Plus the real rooms where it shows up or falls apart: the review where your memory argues with the record, the first ninety seconds of the meeting that sets the room, the miss you're still carrying a month later.

THE RECORD,
NOT THE WEATHER
THE 48-HOUR EXPERIMENT
RECOVERY
IS THE SKILL

Your doubt is loud because your evidence is quiet. The Evidence File and the Story Audit put the record where the replay used to be, so the next time your internal story says you're not ready, there's a file that says otherwise, in your own handwriting.

Every practice closes with one experiment to run in a real situation within 48 hours. Not homework. Field work. You run the protocol without waiting to feel like it, and you watch what the room does.

Confidence was never the absence of misses. It's what you do in the ten minutes after one. The Recovery and the Borrowed Confidence Problem are for the leader who is still carrying last quarter's mistake, or leaning on someone else's certainty because their own never got built.

How to use it.

This is a map, not a curriculum.

Start with the diagnostic to find where your confidence breaks down, then read that one practice, run the experiment, use it somewhere real. This guide never asks you to feel confident. It asks you to run the protocol.

One practice. 48 hours. Come back. Then find the next one.
